VIE Basic Training

​

VIE Basic Training is an intense, prescriptive four-day intervention that helps participants recognize, resist, and interrupt or change violent and abusive attitudes and behaviors.  The VIE core curriculum is eye-opening and potentially life-changing.  We use it to:​

​

• Uncover the roots of male violence and abuse;

​

• Uncover the roots of female violence and victimization;​

​

• Tackle racism, sexism, adultism, and oppression;

​

• Examine power dynamics at school and in our lives; and 

​

• Discuss how to build alliances (relationships) with others and our 7-Step Change Model.

 

VIE Basic Training will quip you with the tools you need to better understand and deal more effectively with anger and negative attitudes, situations, and people. 

It is ideal for students involved with or at-risk of bullying, fighting, and disruptive behavior, as well as those facing suspension or expulsion.

VIE Training of Trainers

​

Zero Casualties in Schools relies on our Violence Interruption Experience (VIE) intervention, which includes a VIE Training of Trainers.  The VIE Training of Trainers teaches you how to design and conduct VIE-based training on your own.  You can acquire the knowledge, skills, and tools you need to adapt and use VIE training yourself.

 

The VIE Training of Trainers curriculum uses lecturettes, demonstrations, and extensive practice sessions- backed by on-site critiques- to ensure you are able to develop and deliver VIE-type training and workshops with power and precision.  You will: 

​

• Understand and use the assumptions and philosophy underlying the VIE way of working;

​

• Dismantle and reassemble the key components and concepts involved in VIE-based training;​

​

• Practice and conduct VIE training on your own;

​

• Adapt and use the VIE toolkit in a variety of settings and situations; and 

​

• Manage crisis and control the emotional climate of your training.

​

Changing attitudes and behaviors is "heart work, not head work."  VIE Training of Trainers teaches you how to go beyond a “cognitive” approach that appeals to “logic” to one that touches a person’s “heart.”  Tapping into a person’s personal experience allows him/her to uncover the root causes of why they think and act as they do, as a prerequisite to building or repairing relationships with others.  With safety, healing, liberation, and justice as its foundation, VIE reaches people of all kinds and promotes positive change.

VIE Workshops

VIE workshops are prescriptive and can be tailored to focus on a myriad of topics.  VIE workshops can last from one hour to two days.  Workshops can be conducted with a small group or class, an entire school, or an audience of unlimited size.  We have conducted VIE-based workshops on:

​

• Bullying, Physical, and Emotional Violence;

​

• Race, Respect, and Reconnecting with Others; ​

​

• Building Alliances (Relationships) with Others;

​

• Alcohol and Other Drugs (How Companies Prey on and Play Youth and Adults; 

​

• Cultural Costumes (What the Way You Dress Says about You and Why It Matters);

​

• So, You Want to be a Player (Dating Violence and Relationships); and                              ; ​

​
